April 27th - May 3rd - practicebicycle.com - Tour de Romandie 2009 Our first European race holiday week for 2009 is the pro tour event, Tour de Romandie. This will be the 62nd edition of this 6 day stage race around the spectacular south-western region of Switzerland. Your fantastic week is a combination of carefully planned "Cycling in the French Alps" rides and short transfers across the border into Switzerland to catch the action live from the roadside with stages of the Tour de Romandie.
All of this from your comfortable apartment accommodation in Annecy, one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. Annecy will be your home for the week and the perfect town to relax and unwind whilst you truly experience the "escapism" of your cycling holiday with practicebicycle.com. What could be better, breathtaking rides, watching the very best professional bike racers in the world and relaxing over a traditional French evening meal before retiring for the night, all without th e additional stress and fatigue of moving on to a different hotel each night. Last years Tour de Romandie event was won by the German rider Andreas Kloden of the famed Astana team, with Australian Cadel Evans a winner of this event in 2006 and with many other previous English speaking winners such as Tyler Hamilton, Andy Hampsten, Phil Anderson and Stephen Roche. This event also gives the riders an opportunity to test their form and an indication of possible race favourite's for the first major tour of the year the Giro d'Italia, which follows shortly after.
This exciting week of cycling includes the opportunity of riding in both the Haute-Savoie region of France and the Romandie region of Switzerland, separated by the magnificent Alps and spectacular Croissant shaped lake of Geneva. This area of Switzerland is also often visited each year in June by the "Tour de Suisse". With the full race route details not released at present, we will be part of the action for several stages including the opening first stage Prologue around the streets of Lausanne, the capital of the canton (state) of Vaud and the City known as the centre of many world organisations such as the IOC (International Olympic Committee). 2009 Brief Trip Itinerary: Mon April 27th - Arrive in Annecy, ride around spectacular Lac Annecy & Welcome drinks.
