The "Tour de France" race

The 2010 Tour de France will start in Rotterdam (Netherlands) on July 3rd, with a clockwise route taking the race over some of the famous cycling roads in Belgium, roads used by the one day classics Paris - Roubaix and Liege-Baston-Liege.  Heading South before its arrival in the French Alps for the 4 decisive Mountain stages, before then passing onto the Pyrennes including the unusual ascent of the Col d Tourmalet on two occasions.  The race will then head North with its one and only time trial of 51km between Bordeaux and Pauillac, before a TGV (train grand vitesse) transfer to Paris for its final stage on July 25th.  Last years Tour was won by the Spanish climber Alberto Contador, with Andy Schleck (LUX) second and Lance Armstrong (USA) third.  It looks like this year's course will favour the climbers, but as always an exciting three weeks will unfold and the strongest rider will win in Paris.

The "Tour de France" practice bicycle region

One of the quality aspects behind a practice bicycle tour is our experience and local knowledge, this year's route will allow us to share with you 3 superb stages, stages 8, 9 and 10.  On the Sunday we will get the opportunity to catch up with the action on the Col de la Ramaz (1615m) a fairly long climb of 14km of 6.9% and potentially very important for the winner of the stage at the finish in Morzine-Avoriaz.  Monday will be the first well deserved rest day for the Tour de France, before the following day's epic long alpine stage over 4 major Col's, with this stage passing only 30km's from your Hotel, a great day on the Col des Aravis (1498m) is planned.  The following day is stage 10 and July 14th, Bastille Day a National holiday in France.  We intend to celebrate in true French style also, with a visit to the stage start in Chambery, a once in a life time opportunity to wander amongst the teams prior to the start of their days work!  Once the race has departed and heading south to the town of Gap, we will enjoy the amazing pleasure and experience of some very fine French cuisine and local wine, should you wish!  What a way to celebrate France and the Tour.
