Thanks for the great week at the Tour Down Under in Adelaide.  We enjoyed the riding immensely and it was great being with you guy's.
 
We and the bikes arrived home safely.  As I was unpacking her bike, Sunshine told me to get rid of the "Mad Max" pedals!!  And I've already been on the net researching in-door trainers!!
 
If you make it to Melbourne - don't come this week unless you like 40+ temperatures - give us a call.  Otherwise, safe trip back to Annecy and we'll see practicebicycle.com in July.

Your "Tour down Under 2010" holiday week itinerary

Sunday 17th JanuaryThe unique animals of Australia.

Arrival day in Adelaide and the opening bike race event of the Santos Tour Down Under the spectacle of the “Cancer Council Helpline Classic”.

Welcomed by our personalized service at the Airport and a short transfer to your luxury studio in the heart of the city at the Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury.  Check-in to your accommodation and un-pack your bike ready for the week ahead, practice bicycle are available should you require any assistance.  Enjoy the rest of the afternoon relaxing and exploring the friendly city of Adelaide including the Rundle Street Markets.

Late afternoon we invite you to a Welcome Aperitif (compliments of practice bicycle) to chat about the great week ahead.  We then have a short walk to Rymill Park to view the Santos Tour Down Under Team Presentation followed by the excitement of the opening nights inner city street race “Cancer Council Help line Classic”.

On completion of the race we will enjoy Welcome Dinner together (compliments of practice bicycle).

 

Monday 18th January

Today is a Rest Day for the professionals so we will have plenty of time to take on the local bike riders challenge of Norton Summit, this climb is ideally ridden at your own pace and well worth the effort with spectacular views of Adelaide the Gulf of Saint Vincent and the Southern Ocean.

Later we will be required to register for Friday’s “Mutual Community Challenge Tour” at the Tour Village across Victoria Square from your Hotel and collect your ride pack, with the rest of the day free to relax and explore the streets of the wonderful city of Adelaide.

 

Planned Moderate Bike Ride: 60km approx ride time 3hrs - Norton Summit.

 

Early evening we suggest an Aperitif at the Hilton Hotel, the official race accommodation for all the professional teams at the Tour down under and the chance to bump into the stars relaxing over a quite drink.

 

Tuesday 19th January

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 1 Clare – Tanunda, today the race starts North of Adelaide in the town of Clare before heading into the heart of the Barossa Valley.  We plan to head out on an early morning easy relaxing ride over to the beach and along the South Australian coast line.  On our return, we will transfer by vehicle to catch up with the race action on Menglers Hill (KOM) and all the excitement of the stage finish in Tanunda.  Today we will also enjoy a café/restaurant lunch (compliments of practicebicycle.com) together and take the opportunity to visit one of the world famous Barossa Valley wineries.

 

Planned Easy Bike Ride: 55km approx ride time 2.30hrs - Beach ride.

 

Wednesday 20th January

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 2 Gawler - Hahndorf, today the race passes through the Adelaide Hills with a traditional finish in Hahndorf. Our ride is a special one and something unique, we leave town with a long steady climb before catching up with the race at the decisive point of today’s stage to view the race on Checker Hill (KOM).  After all the action as passed by we will follow the Torrens River for a leisurely ride back into Adelaide.

 

Planned Difficult Bike Ride: 120km approx ride time 5hrs – Checker Hill.

 

Early evening we recommend a visit to the Tour Village, the hub of the Tour down under and the centre of activity for the team support personnel including the workshops for the team mechanics.

 

Thursday 21st January

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 3 Unley – Stirling, today’s stage is a difficult one heading south taking on the climb of Wickhams Hill Road (KOM) before heading back into the Adelaide hills and the tough finishing circuit around Stirling. 

For us a more relaxing day is planned in the surrounding Adelaide Hills in preparation for tomorrows “Mutual Community Challenge Tour”.  This will also give us the ideal opportunity and bonus to view the race on several occasions.

We will start our day with a gentle ride over to the beach in the morning followed by breakfast and all the excitement of the stage start in Unley. Wandering amongst the stage start gives you a rare chance to get up close and personal with all the stars of professional cycling and some great photo opportunities.  After the start we will transfer by vehicle to view the race on Wickhams Hill (KOM) and again on the finishing circuit.  This afternoon we will also have time to visit an Adelaide Hills Winery.

 

Planned Easy Bike Ride: 30km approx ride time 1.30hrs - Henley beach.

 

 

 

Friday 22nd January

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 4 Norwood – Goolwa, the longest stage of this years “Santos Tour Down Under” taking in the Adelaide Hills before heading south to the finish in Goolwa.  It’s also our long day in the saddle for those who wish to and entered the challenge with the “Mutual Community Challenge Tour” ride, following the actual stage route for 160.5km (including the neutral section of the race), you will feel like a real pro for the day, taken care of and in the very experienced and capable hands (& legs) of practicebicycle.com and our own support team.

 

Planned Difficult Bike Ride: “Mutual Community Challenge Tour” 160.5km approx ride time 6hrs - Norwood – Goolwa.

 

                                                                                               

 

Saturday 23rd JanuaryThere is always plenty of time for you to discover great food and wine with practicebicycle.com.

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 5 Snapper Point – Willunga, the final road stage of this year’s tour and often a favorite route which includes the unique and contrasting scenery of the beach, vineyards around McLaren Vale and finally the two assents of Willunga Hill (KOM) which could be critical in deciding the final outcome of the race.  We have several options available to us today, with a choice of planned easy rides or a REST Day after our big ride yesterday, all with the option to view the race at Aldinga Beach and the excitement of Willunga.  Today we would also like to take the opportunity to share one of our favorite lunch spots with you (compliments of practicebicycle.com) and should you wish, visit one of the fantastic wineries in McLaren Vale.

 

Planned REST DAY or Easy Bike Ride: 50km approx ride time 2hrs – Aldinga Beach.

 

 

 

Sunday 24th January

Unfortunately we say good-bye today; although this is your departure day from Adelaide you have one last opportunity to witness the speed and atmosphere of world class cycling with the “Adelaide City Street Circuit”. Stage 6 of the “2010 Santos Tour Down Under” takes place around the city parks and the banks of the river Torrens, with the start and finish straight on the main promenade of King William road all easily accessible on foot from your Hotel.  With this final stage spectacular taking place from early afternoon, we have plenty of time this morning should you wish to take in an easy ride exploring the quite streets of Adelaide and the race circuit, before assisting you with packing the bike ready for your onward journey.
